Job 6-8 -
Is it any wonder that I am screaming like a caged cat? The arrows of God Almighty are in me...God has dumped the whole works on me.. so don’t expect me to keep quiet in this...It’s enough to turn anyone’s stomach! Everything in me is repulsed by it.
All I want is an answer to one prayer, a last request to be honored...Where is the strength to keep my hopes up?...When desperate people give up on God Almighty, their friends, at least, should stick with them.
But my brothers are fickle as a gulch in the desert---one day they’re gushing with water...but by midsummer they’re dry gullies baked dry by the sun....One look at a hard scene and you shrink in fear. It’s not as though I asked you for anything--I didn’t ask you fro one red cent--nor did I beg you to go out on a limb for me so why all this dodging and shuffling?
Confront me with truth and I’ll shut up, show me where I’ve gone off the track. Honest words never hurt anyone. But what’s the point of all this pious bluster? You pretend to tell me what’s wrong with my life, but treat my words of anguish as so much hot air....
My complaining to high heaven is bitter, but honest....I hate this life! Who needs any more of this? Let me alone! There’s nothing to my life--it’s nothing but smoke...Don’t you have anything to do but pick on me?
Bildad was next to speak...How can you keep talking like this? You’re talking nonsense and noisy nonsense at that...Does God mess up?...It’s plain that your children sinned against him--... Get down on your knees before God Almighty...Put the question to our ancestors, study what they learned from their ancestors...There is no way that God will reject a good person, and there is no way he’ll help a bad one. God will let you laugh again; you’ll raise the roof with shouts of joy.
Matthew 14 -
Herod heard what was being said about Jesus. “This has to be John the Baptizer come back from the dead. That’s why he’s able to work miracles. Herod had arrested John...to placate Herodias, his brother Philip’s wife. John had provoked Herod by naming his relationship with Herodias adultery... Unwilling to lose face with his guests, he ordered John’s head cut off and presented to Herodias’ daughter on a platter.
When Jesus got the news, he slipped away by boat to an out-of-the-way place by himself. But unsuccessfully--someone saw him & word got around...When he saw a crowd coming, he was overcome with pity and healed their sick. Toward The evening, the disciples approached him. Jesus said “There is no need to dismiss them, U give them supper.” All we have is five loaves of bread & 2 fish. They all ate their fill. They gathered 12 baskets of leftovers. About 5000 were fed.
As soon as the meal was finished, he insisted that the disciples get in the boat and go to the other side while he dismissed the crowd. With the crowd dispersed, he climbed the mountain so he could be by himself and pray. He stayed there alone late into the night...
At about 4 am, Jesus came toward his disciples walking on the water. They were scared out of their wits. But Jesus was quick to comfort them. “Courage, it’s me. Don’t be afraid.” Peter, suddenly bold stated “call me to come to you on the water. Jesus said “Come ahead.” Jumping out of the boat, Peter walked on the water to Jesus but lost his nerve and started to sink. He cried “Master, save me!” Jesus didn’t hesitate. He reached down and grabbed his hand. Then he said, “Faint-hearted, what got into you.” ...
The disciples in the boat, having watched the whole thing, worshiped Jesus saying, “This is it! You are God’s Son for sure!” On return, they beached the boat at Gennesaret. When the people got wind that he was back, they sent word throughout the neighborhood... and whoever touched him was healed.
